Environmental benign materials have become more important these days. There has several materials that are produced from biobased polymer from conventional materials to advanced materials such as biodegradable plastic bags, food wraps, mobile case even materials for drug delivery system. An innovation has come with challenging. In my opinion, innovation may be fabrication or synthesis new material or may be fabrication some additive to fulfill requirement of former products. In order to do those things, you need to understand in molecular level of polymers to create idea to design and synthesis new materials or additive.

My research interest is about molecular design and synthesis of biobased materials such as chitin/chitosan and polylactic acid (PLA). Chitosan is obtained from crustacean shell which is the second most abundant polysaccharide. Polylactic acid (PLA) is one of the most attractive biodegradable polymers due to its comparable properties to polystyrene. However, PLA has low heat distortion and brittleness.

So we modify molecular chain of PLA to copolymerize with other flexible chain to promote rubbery phase and enhance impact property of PLA.

I also interested in synthesis of functional copolymer for construction materials such as superplasticizer that enhance the flowability of cement mixture and reduce water content.
